KEY POINTS

The IRS will begin accepting 2016 returns January 23, 2017. The due date is April 18, 2017.
The PATH Act requires the IRS to hold any tax refund clamining the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional
Child Tax Credit until February 15, 2017.
Some ITINs will expire Jauary 1, 2017. If your ITIN has the middle digits 78 and 79 or it hasn't been used for three years, y
Y ou must renew to use it on a 2016 tax return.

IRS New LAW

A new law requires the IRS to hold refunds until mid-February in 2017 for people claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit. In addition, new identity theft and refund fraud safeguards put in place by the IRS and the states may mean some tax returns and refunds face additional review.
